Ignazio Cassis to travel to Berlin

Bern, 11.11.2025 — Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis, the head of the FDFA, will be in Berlin from 13 to 14 November 2025. He will meet with the German foreign minister, Johann Wadephul, and the minister for economic cooperation and development, Reem Alabali Radovan. The talks will focus on bilateral relations, European policy, geopolitical challenges, and reconstruction efforts in Ukraine and Gaza.

The meeting between Mr Cassis and his German counterpart in Berlin reaffirms the close bilateral and cross-border relations between Switzerland and Germany. In addition to bilateral matters, topics of discussion will include the current status of the package of agreements between Switzerland and the EU as well as current geopolitical challenges, in particular the security situation in Europe and the role of the OSCE, which Switzerland will chair in 2026. The meeting with Ms Radovan meanwhile will focus on reconstruction efforts in Ukraine and the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory.

Switzerland and Germany maintain very close and wide-ranging relations at all levels. In addition to close political and cultural ties, the two countries' economies are also closely intertwined. Germany is Switzerland's most important trading partner for both imports and exports. Almost 330,000 German nationals live in Switzerland, making Germans the second-largest community of foreign nationals in Switzerland after Italians.
