Addressing gender and C/D/E through transformative action
This webinar will explain the risks and opportunities related to gender (in)equality and C/D/E, give an overview of key areas for action, provide a snapshot of selected SDC projects and conclude with an interactive session with the participants.

Women and girls are disproportionately affected by climate and environmental related disasters. C/D/E risks deepen existing gender inequalities: women and girls face severe health and life risks — being up to 14 times more likely to die in disasters; women carry an already disproportionate unpaid care burden — 2.5 to 3 times that of men globally — and face greater economic loss and increased violence in the aftermath of disasters. At the same time, investing in women delivers proven results — from more effective forest conservation and stronger environmental governance to measurably greater climate resilience and readiness — making gender equality a driver, not just a beneficiary, of climate action. Despite these benefits, there has been little success in moving from gender sensitive to gender-transformative programming, not only in C/D/E, but in general.
The webinar will begin by explaining the risks and opportunities related to gender (in)equality and C/D/E, followed by an overview of key areas for action to advance both gender equality and climate action. It will then provide a snapshot of selected SDC projects from different regions, highlighting how they address both dimensions through transformative action. The webinar will conclude with an interactive session in which participants will discuss the bottlenecks and potential solutions to move from purely gender sensitive to gender responsive and transformative approaches.
Objectives
By the end of the webinar, participants will have an enhanced understanding of the interrelations between C/D/E and gender (in)equality and how C/D/E interventions benefit from gender equality. They will be familiar with how SDC addresses both gender equality and C/D/E within their projects and programmes and get inspiration and practical ideas on how to move forward both C/D/E and gender equality through their programmes.
