About us

Climate change, natural hazards and environmental challenges are major threats to progress towards sustainable development and may jeopardise the work and achievements of development cooperation. Poor and vulnerable communities are particularly exposed to these threats, and ensuring environmentally sound and sustainable human and economic development that is resilient to climate change and natural hazards for the benefit of present and future populations is therefore one of the four objectives of Switzerland’s International Cooperation Strategy 2025–28.

Mandate and Mission

The Climate, Disaster Risk Reduction and Environment CDE network supports SDC units, staff and partners to increase the overall impact of Swiss C/D/E funded and related interventions by

  • promoting exchange, learning and experience sharing
  • providing thematic operational advice
  • capitalising on experiences and disseminating good practices
  • supporting policy development, quality assurance and normative processes

Focal Point

The CDE network is part of the CDE Section and the network’s Focal Point is André Wehrli.

Core Group

The Core Group of the CDE Network consists of Swiss International Cooperation Regional/ National Programme Officers and Thematic advisors. Their role is to provide overall direction at the level of the Networks' operations, propose themes and activities to be developed and act as a sounding board to the network activities, validating proposed activities.

Cluster Green

The CDE Network is thematically related to the Water, and Agriculture and Food Systems Networks. These Networks cooperate to make best use of the synergies – forming a so-called Cluster Green, and taking a strong stake at mainstreaming DRR, Climate Change and Environment into the SDC operations.
