Capitalisations and evaluations
This page presents key lessons learned from SDC’s work and experience, featured in capitalisation and evaluations of projects and programs related to Climate, DRR and Environment.
Capitalisations
Limestone Calcined Clay Cement (LC3) is a new low-carbon blended cement that allows cement manufacturers to reduce the CO2 emissions from production. Funding from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) helped bring the LC3 technology from the lab to large-scale commercial production. The SDC supported the development of the scientific basis for LC3 and the testing of production, and is promoting the adoption of LC3 standards and supporting global outreach.
This systematisation summarises the work of the SDC's DRR project in Bolivia over more than twelve years of work, but particularly of the last four years. It emphasises the results achieved in joint work with partners at different national and subnational levels, highlighting the impact achieved - particularly the contribution to the implementation of national policies in the framework of disaster risk management and climate change adaptation.

From 1999 to 2004 the Disaster Risk Reduction Programme in Central America was set out to help save lives and reduce both humanitarian suffering and economic losses and damage due to disasters. To do so, it needed to generate changes in the performance of public and private stakeholders, which allowed to effectively reduce risks from disasters. Almost 70 projects were developed in collaboration with partners. Learn more from the experiences and good practices.
BEEP has made a significant contribution to the building and construction sector in India. In 2023, the BEEP project has ended. But looking back at its 14 year of existence, the achievements are impressive. Today the entire building-energy ecosystem in India is bubbling with energy to carry forward the legacy of BEEP further. It is only the start of new beginning. This publication documents the key learnings and essential processes of the BEEP journey.
With contributions from the Swiss government and many other donors, the Impact of Air Pollution on Maternal and Child Health Project was implemented by UNICEF from 2018-2023. The project addressed issues related to air pollution’s impact on maternal and child health through a complex approach: from supporting the research and data on air pollution to inform laws and policies supported by a national parliamentary group to innovative pilot solutions to reduce the risks for children, pregnant women and elderly people in their homes, kindergartens and health facilities.

After the devastating floods in the Swat Valley in summer 2022, Switzerland proposed a flood analysis to the Pakistani government. The study is intended to provide specialists' insights into future flood hazards. The Swat Valley is prone to serious flooding. Lessons learned from the 2022 floods are important for reconstruction and disaster risk reduction in the densely populated mountain valley. The national and provincial disaster management authorities (NDMA and PDMA) and the National Centre of Excellence in Geology at the University of Peshawar were closely involved in the study. The study contains comprehensive findings and recommendations and forms a good basis for supporting the authorities and international organisations during the valley's reconstruction.
Evaluations
The evaluation had the objective to assess the entire SDC climate change portfolio, including climate change projects from the GPCCE as well as the bilateral development cooperation and the humanitarian aid. The portfolio study had a strong emphasis on the bilateral climate change projects.

Disaster risk reduction in international cooperation Switzerland's contribution to the protection of lives and livelihoods
The SDC assessed the effectiveness of its DRR commitments in 2011. The assessment provides information about the resources invested by Switzerland for the reduction of risks from natural hazards, the areas in which these investments were made and the results that have been achieved. This publication is mainly based on information collected from seven pilot countries by the SDC staff, made available in the internal synthesis report «Effectiveness of SDC commitments in disaster risk reduction» (2010)
