Existing and new climate finance institutions (e.g. GEF, GCF, Loss and Damage Fund, carbon offset schemes) operate in politically challenging contexts and face pressure to disburse fast, often with limited oversight and new governance models. This session aims at examining how major climate finance institutions identify and mitigate corruption risks.

Guiding Questions:

  • Why are corruption risks elevated in multilateral and global funds?
  • How robust are existing integrity systems, safeguards, and grievance mechanisms?
  • Where are the institutional blind spots (e.g. fund allocation, project selection, verification)?
  • How can SDC and partners engage or influence better risk management?

Inputs by:

  • U4, presenting findings of report “Beyond Compliance in Multilateral Climate Fund Governance”.
  • Representative from a multilateral climate fund (e.g. GCF, GEF, or Adaptation Fund)
  • SDC staff involved in multilateral engagement (TBD)

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Andreas Weber (Policy Adviser, Governance and Anti-Corruption) and André Wehrli (Sector Policy Advisor for Climate, DRR and Environment CDE) at SDC

David Aled Williams (Principal Adviser Natural Resources and Energy) and Saul Mullard (Senior Adviser Climate Change and Civil Society) at U4
