President Parmelin to attend summit on artificial intelligence in India

Berna, 13.02.2026 — President Guy Parmelin will represent Switzerland at the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi next week. The summit serves as a forum for discussions on the implementation and use of AI. During his visit to the event on Thursday, 19 February, Mr Parmelin will meet with heads of state and government and hold bilateral talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As a prelude to the main programme, Mr Parmelin will attend the opening of the AI Impact Expo and visit the Swiss pavilion. A meeting with Prime Minister Modi is planned for Thursday. Mr Parmelin will use the AI Impact Summit as an opportunity to hold further discussions with heads of state and government, and will exchange views with representatives from politics, business, academia and civil society. The New Delhi summit follows on from the AI summits held at Bletchley Park (UK) in 2023, Seoul in 2024 and Paris in 2025. It is currently the most important high-level meeting on the topic of AI.

This trip is also taking place with a view to Switzerland's intention to host the AI Summit in Geneva in 2027 and to contribute to the ongoing discussion on the use of AI and its international governance and regulation. In India, Switzerland's role as a centre for research and innovation will also be highlighted. In particular, Switzerland wishes to emphasise the importance of international law and fundamental rights in the development and use of AI.
