Ahead of El Niño: Switzerland's approach to disaster risk reduction
The current El Niño event is already very strong and could produce devastating consequences, pushing the cost of inaction higher and higher. Anticipating natural hazards and building on Switzerland’s holistic approach to disaster risk reduction (DRR) is therefore more important than ever. This is particularly relevant in southern Africa, where Switzerland supports anticipatory, predictable, nationally owned risk management.

Learning from disasters through event analyses
This webinar - organized by the CDE Network on 16 September 2026 - conveyed a general understanding of the role that event analyses play in integrated risk management in Switzerland, how they are set up, and how the Swiss expertise can be used to support event analyses for DRR abroad, while aligning with UNDRR perspectives on using “After-Action Reviews” to enhance readiness for disaster recovery.
