Training Opportunities C/D/E
There are many opportunities to deepen your knowledge in Climate, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Environment (C/D/E). Below is a selection of courses that may be of interest to you.
- CERG-C: Specialization certificate for the assessment and management of geological and climate related risk: This course equips scientists with the knowledge and skills needed to assess, manage, and mitigate natural hazards through a multidisciplinary approach to risk assessment and management. Participants also develop the ability to communicate risk effectively to a wide range of stakeholders. The programme covers five core areas: risk management; flood hazards, climate change, and associated risks; seismic risk; landslide risk; and volcanic risk.
- Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) ETH in Natural Hazard Risk Management (CAS ETH NHRM): The programme consists of four modules, each worth 3 ECTS credits, covering integrated risk management, natural hazard processes, digitalization, and the interactions between natural hazards, climate change, and civil protection.
- Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Building and Occupant Protection against Natural Hazards: The programme provides training in legal and regulatory frameworks governing natural hazards, the vulnerability of the built environment to natural hazards, methods of risk assessment, and the identification of appropriate protective measures.
- A Resilient Future: Science and Technology for Disaster Risk Reduction (MOOC): This course introduces participants to existing and emerging technologies for disaster risk reduction (DRR), with a strong emphasis on supporting sustainable development. It focuses on three key hazard types: floods, landslides, and earthquakes.
- ReliefWeb page on Environment and Emergencies: This thematic hub that compiles information, reports, and analysis on how environmental factors interact with humanitarian crises. It focuses on the links between environmental degradation, climate change, and disaster and conflict risks, and highlights how these issues affect emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. The section brings together resources from humanitarian and development organizations to support evidence-based decision-making in crisis contexts.
- Annual meetings and FAN (Natural Hazard Specialists) courses and CIPC (Flood Protection Commission of the Swiss Association for Water Management) activities: The annual meetings provide an opportunity for Swiss disaster risk reduction (DRR) professionals to exchange knowledge and stay informed about recent developments in their field. In addition, training courses are regularly organised (see the relevant platforms for details).
- Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC): The ADPC Academy provides training in specialized fields of disaster preparedness for governments, intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations. The courses cover key areas in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation.
