Integration of C/D/E in other topics

C/D/E poses risks to many development sectors – and, in turn, can be influenced by activities within these sectors. Learn more about these challenges and how to mainstream C/D/E considerations into your own work.

Since 2019, risks and impacts related to C/D/E must be systematically incorporated into the SDC’s cooperation frameworks and operations. The process begins with a comprehensive C/D/E risk and impact screening using the Climate, Environment and DRR Integration Guidance (CEDRIG) tool. This approach helps minimise potential harm while creating opportunities to embed C/D/E considerations into SDC activities and generate co-benefits when appropriate.

SDC’s main focus for C/D/E integration aligns with the priority themes of Switzerland’s International Cooperation Strategy where C/D/E has a direct impact. These include water, energy, agriculture, food systems, health, education, gender and governance.

Beyond these direct and evident links, C/D/E influences many other topics, in complex and indirect ways, often interacting with other drivers. These secondary effects of C/D/E can affect economic stability or exacerbate migration, displacement, and protection risks, ultimately threatening peace and security. C/D/E risks and impacts can intensify food, water and livelihood insecurity, triggering cascading consequences such as increased competition over natural resources or social disruptions. These dynamics can heighten tensions and potentially lead to conflict or instability.
