CDE Outlook Event 2026

On 28 January 2026, some 60 participants joined the annual CDE Network Outlook event to get information on the highlights of 2025, to learn about the CDE Network’s plans for 2026 and to engage and share their views.

Key elements

CDE Network milestones in 2025: In 2025, the CDE Network launched the revised CEDRIG tool and developed several Thematic Integration Briefs to facilitate the mainstreaming of C/D/E in other development themes. It also introduced the C/D/E working aid that provides SDC staff and partners with information, tools and approaches relevant to C/D/E. In addition, the CDE Network organised various CDE and Green Nexus learning journeys and webinars on topics such as air pollution, climate and health or the Blatten disaster. Participants particularly appreciated the many opportunities for exchange and learning.

CDE network priorities and plans for 2026: In 2026, the CDE network will focus on strengthening collaboration across the Green Nexus, organising learning events on key topics such as low‑carbon built environment or climate finance, and further improving CEDRIG and related mainstreaming guidance. These plans aligned well with the interests of the participants, who highlighted the importance of scaling up and promoting CEDRIG, improving exchange and peer learning across regions and themes, and creating stronger links between research, policy, finance and field practice. A short poll with event participants revealed that there is strong appetite for in-person engagement, that the demand for concise online exchange formats is continuously high, and that there is also interest in hybrid and longer-term learning formats, though mainly as complementary options.

New CDE Network member space: The CDE Network member space recently moved to MS Teams. SDC used the opportunity of this event to introduce this new member space as well as the related expert roster to the participants. All CDE Network members who have not registered yet on MS Teams are kindly invited to do so on the Network's registration page.

Update on Green Nexus development: The SDC gave an overview of the Green Nexus journey and the planned next steps (more information on the Green Nexus). Participants indicated that these developments resonate with their work and welcomed the stronger focus on addressing Green Nexus themes in an integrated manner. They also mentioned the need for stronger empirical evidence showing that integrated Green Nexus approaches outperform sectoral ones, including better measurement of systemic impacts, trade-offs, and coordination costs. According to the participants, trade-offs, in particular, should be clearly recognized.
